Newcastle fans are mercilessly bashing Sunderland, after the Black Cats’ new Executive Director criticised the Magpies.
New Sunderland Executive Director Charlie Methven has branded Newcastle as “an arrogant club” who “seem to think they are special” in a press conference on Monday.
It’s been a pretty rough season for Sunderland fans, watching their club suffer the demise that in truth has been coming for some time under Ellis Short.
The arrival of new owner Stewart Donald is certainly a relief for the Black Cats and their fans, but they’re in for a difficult couple of years as far as bragging rights are concerned.
Sunderland fans tortured the Toon Army with their “six in a row” taunts, but the gap between the two clubs is now monumental, and the new men in charge at the Stadium of Light have been trying their best to get fans on side.

Speaking at the press conference, Methven said: “For some reason I’ve always had an antipathy towards Newcastle.”
“I mean that wasn’t a determining factor in this, but it does mean I’ve always had a slight soft spot for Sunderland because I’ve always found Newcastle to be a rather arrogant club.
“They seem to think that they’re special, and they don’t understand that every club is special.”
Unsurprisingly, fans on Tyneside are absolutely crucifying the comments, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
