Liverpool threatened to transform themselves into fearsome Premier League title chasers this summer but probably fell a little short of that status at the close of the transfer window.
While Mohamed Salah has already shown what he adds to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI – namely relentless pace and goal threat from out wide – the Reds failed to address their ultimate weakness at centre-back after making an absolute mess of their pursuit of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
That being said, the Anfield outfit did manage to offload some deadwood, most notably picking up £27.5million for Mamadou Sakho, and got the biggest deal of Deadline Day over the line with a swoop for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
