As reported by The Sun, Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is looking to out of favour left-back Luke Shaw as he plans for the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
The Sun reckon that Crystal Palace are set to capitalise on the disharmony between Luke Shaw and Jose Mourinho by tabling a bid for the former Southampton man in the coming transfer window.
However, it may not be so easy to attract him to London with the full-back determined to win back his place in the Man United side and prove himself to Jose Mourinho.
What’s the beef?
The Sun also reported in November that Jose Mourinho was furious with Shaw for being unable to play against Swansea and not telling his manager until the morning of the game.
The Man Utd boss is quoted in the story as saying: “To compete you have to go to the limit. It is cultural for some – and that is not my culture. More than me, it is Man United.”
Apparently feeling that the defender lacks the commitment to be a United regular, Shaw’s football has been limited to the Europa League and EFL Cup ever since.
He featured in last night’s cup win at home to West Ham but was substituted at half-time.
What does he offer another club?
Shaw is undoubtedly a class left-back on his day and we reckon his lack of game time is more through circumstance than ability. If a club, such as Crystal Palace, can capitalise on his situation at Man United, they’d be getting a player that almost certainly improves their starting XI.
The former Southampton man signed for Man United for what was then a world record fee for a teenager and that potential has still to be harnessed to its fullest.
At just 21 there’s plenty of time for him to potentially develop into a world-class player.
