Liverpool should be looking for long-term replacements for Adam Lallana in the upcoming January transfer window.
The former England international seemed to have found his stride following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, but injuries hampered his progress significantly. Lallana missed the majority of last season and slipped down the pecking order as a result. Following the arrival of Naby Keita and Fabinho in the summer, competition for places in the Liverpool midfield is fierce.
Klopp has eased Lallana back into the first-team picture at Anfield, but his performances so far have been extremely concerning. The ex-Southampton man has looked off the pace and unable to find his rhythm in the Liverpool midfield trio. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the 30-year-old sold when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
As a replacement, Liverpool must be keeping tabs on Bournemouth hotshot – David Brooks. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the Wales international burst on to the scene last season with Sheffield United – scoring a famous goal against Leeds United after coming on as a substitute to seal victory in the Yorkshire Derby. Brooks was quickly snapped up by the Cherries in the summer, who paid £11.5m to prise him away from the Blades.
The youngster has quickly become a key player under Eddie Howe, and his excellent form has continued in the Premier League. The 21-year-old has three goals to his name already this season and has helped Bournemouth reach sixth in the table. The Welshman would be the ideal replacement for Lallana at Anfield.
The playmaker has the potential to be one of the best number tens in the Premier League and would thrive under Klopp’s tutelage. With youngsters like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez enjoyed first-team roles – Brooks could be the next sensation to become a huge hit on Merseyside.
Liverpool fans, thoughts?
