Although the vast majority of Hammers fans out there may still be feeling slightly bitter towards Bobby Madley and his less than satisfactory officiating last time out at Stamford Bridge, those following West Ham still have every reason to remain optimistic in what has so far proven to be a rather impressive campaign.
West Ham are well placed in the league table with a potential top four charge on the cards this season, and Slaven Bilic’s side certainly have what it takes to maintain their impressive form in the FA Cup – where they are just a replay away from the semi-finals. And as the club’s highly anticipated move to London’s Olympic Stadium is waiting around the corner, the upcoming summer transfer period could theoretically turn out to be one of the biggest in the Londoners’ entire history. Exciting times.
So then, as the purposeful Premier League outfit are reportedly keen on landing Lyon’s rapidly emerging striking talent, Alexandre Lacazette, this summer, are West Ham genuinely about to embark on one of their most ambitious transfer sagas, or does this particular deal remain somewhat unlikely to materialise?
Well, as the 24-year-old Frenchman finished the 2014/15 campaign in absolutely terrific goalscoring form, and has subsequently netted 16 in all competitions so far this term. It seems as if West Ham certainly aren’t aiming low when it comes to sourcing some talent ahead of the new domestic campaign.
Lacazette is someone who has displayed a keen eye for goal in several successive seasons now, and his composure in and around the opposition’s penalty box certainly hasn’t disappointed. As the hotly coveted striker is supposedly capable of developing even further throughout the upcoming stages of his career, few sides operating within the English top-flight would say no to his signature this summer.

Put in no uncertain terms whatsoever, this is a player who could easily develop into one of the most prolific and notorious centre-forwards on offer just a few short years down the line. Lacazette is therefore more than worthy of the recent praise to come his way, even if the front-man in question hasn’t quite been at his very best form across certain portions of the current campaign.
Newcastle United reportedly had a £22 million bid accepted for the French international in January, so even though Bilic’s side may be forced to spend big on Lacazette’s signature, such an outcome doesn’t seem entirely impossible when all is said and done.
Yet seeing as Guus Hiddink’s current Chelsea outfit – among several other English clubs likely to be on the hunt this summer – are also apparently keen on landing Lacazette in the not too distant future, perhaps West Ham may indeed have it all to do regarding this latest exciting transfer quest.
The in-demand Frenchman will likely be tempted by the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season if we’re all being honest, which, despite West Ham’s all-round impressive efforts in 2015/16, may ultimately prove a step too far for the Hammers.
The East End outfit could nonetheless turn their attention towards another reputable Ligue 1 striker if they fail to land Lacazette this summer, however, for Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi is supposedly high up on Bilic’s shopping list also.
So then, although West Ham have certainly proven themselves worthy of aiming slightly higher within the usual chaos and unpredictability that is the summer transfer window, the Upton Park hierarchy will have to fend off a large slice of serious competition in the race for Alexandre Lacazette’s increasingly desirable signature this summer… But it may be worth it!
